Four Tongue-and-groove Polyurethane Sandwich Panel

2026-07-28

A four-sided tongue-and-groove polyurethane sandwich panel is a premium metal-faced insulated panel, with its defining feature being the four-sided tongue-and-groove interlocking design.

Four Tongue-and-groove Polyurethane Sandwich Panel

Basic Composition

Metal Facings: Typically made of color-coated steel or galvanized steel, with a thickness generally ranging from 0.5 mm to 0.7 mm.

Core Material: Rigid polyurethane (PUR/PIR) foam, which is integrally bonded to the metal facings through a continuous lamination process.

Key Characteristics: Excellent thermal insulation performance (thermal conductivity of approx. 0.02–0.024 W/(m·K)), combined with high structural strength and light deadweight.

Meaning of "Four-Sided Tongue and Groove"

Conventional sandwich panels are typically equipped with only two tongue-and-groove joints (one male and one female, i.e., a protruding ridge on one side and a matching recess on the other).

The four-sided design means that all four edges of the panel, both longitudinal sides and both transverse ends, are fitted with male/female interlocking profiles.

This configuration enables tight mechanical interlocking not only along the longitudinal direction but also at the transverse end connections, allowing for joint assembly without the need for additional accessories.

Core Advantages and Applications

Superior Airtightness: With interlocking profiles on all four sides, thermal bridging and air leakage are significantly minimized—making these panels particularly suitable for environments with stringent temperature and humidity control requirements, such as cold storage facilities and cleanrooms.

Rapid Installation: The four-sided interlocking system allows panels to be simply pushed into position and fastened, eliminating the need for complex sub-framing or elaborate sealing treatments.

Aesthetic Finish: Neat and uniform joint lines contribute to an attractive, high-quality facade appearance.

Typical Applications: Cold room panels, cleanroom enclosures, high-end industrial building wall cladding, and purification engineering projects.

Important Note: Polyurethane core materials are classified as combustible (Class B) under most building standards (even with the addition of flame retardants, they can only achieve Class B1 or B2). Therefore, four-sided tongue-and-groove polyurethane sandwich panels are NOT suitable for use as fire-rated walls or partition walls with a fire-resistance requirement. They are, however, acceptable for non-load-bearing building envelopes where high thermal insulation is required but fire-resistance requirements are relatively moderate (subject to compliance with local building codes regarding height and area limitations).
