Properties of different insulation material

Rock wool

Rock wool shines in multiple ways makes it a more common insulation material. It is made of 60-70% recycled material which makes it environment friendly. Its density is quite high compare to all the other insulation materials, this is both a advantage and disadvantage as a insulation material. The high density makes it easier to apply and secure in place compare to fibre glass. On the other hand the high density makes it harder to apply for ceiling installation. It is also a great fire stop as it is A1 fire resistance under ISO standard. It has the best sound proof level in all insulation materials. Therefore, some recording rooms use rockwool sandwich panel as one of the sound proof layer.

Fibre glass (Glass wool)

Fibre glass insulation have similar properties of rock wool. But it was made less environment friendly as it uses only 20-30% recycled material. But is commonly cheaper than rock wool and is widely available worldwide as it require less developed production process. It has A grade fire proof level and good heat insulation property.

PU foam

PU refers to polyurethane it applies in foam which helps it is more consist to apply on uneven surfaces. PU also have the best heat insulating property out of all insulation materials. PU lack of fire resistance by it alone. PIR is the fire proof version of PU. It can reach B1 grade fire proof which provide some level of fire protect. PU is the comprehensively the best material. Therefore, it has been commonly used as PU sandwich panel On the other hand, PU is the most expensive insulation material.

EPS Polystyrene

Polystyrene has the lowest density out of all insulation material. It also had great heat insulation property. Furthermore, it is the cheapest material to use for budget project. It lack of fireproof ability. To enhance its fireproof property, a composite material called NF EPS been developed. NF EPS can achieve B grade fireproof. It's mainly used as a cost efficient cold room wall material in form of EPS sandwich panel.

Cellulose

The most environmental friendly material in all insulation material. It is 100% made of recycled material. According to recent studies cellulose may have incredible ability to minimized fire damage as cellulose has compact structure which makes there almost no oxygen inside of it to stop fire from spreading.
